FAQ

What is acro yoga?
Acro yoga is a physical practice which combines yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage. Acro yoga is usually practiced in groups of 2 or 3 people - base, flyer and optionally spotter:
  • The base is the person who is typically on the floor, and who holds up the flyer
  • The flyer is the person who is lifted into the air and moved around by the base
  • The spotter is someone who is right by their side to help in case the flyer falls
You will often see acro yoga practitioners taking pictures and videos of themselves in some pretty poses. Yet acro yoga isn't just about mastering a super cool pose for the sake of the aesthetic. Acro yoga teaches us to slow down, to focus, to trust and be trusted, to communicate efficiently and to share kindness with another human being.
Can anyone do acro yoga?
Yes, as long as you are physically active in some way. Acro yoga can be demanding on the body and can feel like exercise.
If you don't like to touch people or to be touched, it will be problematic for you to participate in acro yoga.
I'm a TOTAL beginner, can I still come?
Yes! Unless specifically mentioned, all events are suitable for beginners. Everyone started as a total beginner.
Our community is full of friendly and welcoming people that are happy to show you some moves and introduce you to the world of acro yoga.
What's the difference between a jam, a class and a workshop?
  • Class is where you learn new skills with the help of instructors. To participate in classes, you need to pay a fee (or use your multisport card).
  • Workshop is the same as class, except workshops are one-time events while classes tend to be regular (usually weekly).
  • Jam is where you practice your acro yoga skills and have fun. There are experienced people on the jams who can show you new moves to practice. When jams are done outdoors, they can include other activities - slacklining, handstands, juggling, group games, etc. In jams you get to decide what to do and who to do it with. Jams have no fee when outdoors or just a small fee when indoors (to pay rent).
What clothes should I wear?
  • You should wear comfortable sports clothes that do not reveal too much anatomy when you go upside down, bend over or spread your legs. Yoga pants, leggings, or gym shorts without pockets are ideal.
  • Remove everything from your pockets.
  • Avoid wearing watches or jewellery that can get tangled, cut skin, or get caught in the other person's feet or hands.
  • Avoid wearing heavy perfumes.
What do I need to bring to the jam/class?
  • Bring water
  • Bring a mat (unless we are in a yoga studio with mats)
Nothing else is really needed.
Do I need to come with a partner?
No. Of course, if you feel more comfortable playing together with someone you know, you can come with your friend(s).

In acro yoga it is best to change partners during jams and classes because it is more fun and you get to interact with more people and learn from them. Also, playing with the same person all the time may get boring at some point and you may get stuck progressing.
How can I practice acro yoga safely?
Some acro yoga poses and tricks, especially the more advanced ones, can be dangerous and can result in injuries. If you don't feel safe or comfortable performing a move, ask for a reliable spotter, or just refuse to do it.

Is acro yoga just for hippies?
No. Even though at times acroyoga might seem like a hippy activity, people from all walks of life practice acro yoga.
